Admission:
Sound Mind, Inc. is a sober living environment that will offer men and women an opportunity to live for up to one year free from the influence of drugs and alcohol, while emphasizing a faith in Jesus Christ as the best opportunity to continue to live life free of substances. Potential residents will be required to submit an application, participate in an interview with a program director, and submit to a drug screen upon admission. Some positive screen results will be referred to a detox program prior to admission. Furthermore, periodic drug screens will be administered throughout a resident’s stay. All residents will be required upon admission to submit to a search of their clothes and belongings, and all clothes and belongings will also need to be washed before being allowed into the resident’s room. In addition, all residents will be required to shower before being permitted to begin daily functions within the facility. Furthermore, a resident’s belongings will be limited to clothing and minimal personal mementos. Sound Mind, Inc. reserves the right to search any resident’s room, at any time, for any reason. Residents are also subject to search by management at any time. All photographs, books, magazines and other reading material must be approved by the program director and may not contain sexually explicit illustrations or language or derogatory images or words.
Personal Hygiene:
All residents will be required to shower and brush their teeth on a daily basis. In addition, residents will be responsible for doing laundry and having clean clothes available to wear each day. All residents will be responsible for maintaining and washing their own towels and washcloths.
Chores:
All residents will be required to keep their room neat and clean. House chores are assigned at weekly resident- facilitated house meetings. Failure to do assigned chores will result in loss of privileges. Continued lack of compliance with completing chores will ultimately result in the possibility of being dismissed from the program.
Medications and Illness:
Sound Mind, Inc. is a sober living environment, therefore, no medications that contain addictive properties will be permitted. Furthermore, Sound Mind, Inc. is not a medical facility, which means staff and/or volunteers will not administer medication or offer any type of medical advice or treatment. Moreover, Sound Mind, Inc. will not take any responsibility for the medications that the resident brings into the facility. Furthermore, in the event of any urgent illness or adverse reaction to medication, staff will notify 911 and the resident’s emergency contact person.
Activities:
All residents will be required to participate in scheduled activities such as Bible study classes, faith-based support group meetings, church services, and community service projects. Furthermore, there will be opportunities offered for assistance with GED, employment skills, parenting classes and money management. Participation in these activities will be required as applicable and determined by the program director. Failure to participate may result in eviction from the program. Watching television and other recreational activities are considered a privilege, and will be available as determined by the program director on a day-to-day basis.
RECOVERY WELLNESS PLAN:
Residents will complete a Recovery Wellness Plan to assist that person with goals and the process of moving forward in recovery. This plan may change and most likely will as a resident continues to grow, therefore, management will offer the recovery plan sheets to residents to rework at any time they are needed.
Classes:
All residents will be required to attend any and all classes. It is the resident’s responsibility to be in attendance to these classes, therefore, if the resident does not attend classes, church, or group, the resident will lose cell phone privileges, pass time, and ultimately be dismissed from the program. Furthermore, if all classes are not completed by the resident, then the resident will not graduate the program.
Leaving the premises:
During the first phase of the program, residents will not be permitted to leave the premises unless supervised by staff or volunteers. The program director must be notified in advance of all appointments, court hearings, etc. so that arrangements can be made. Additionally, a resident is free to leave at his own discretion; however, this will be considered grounds for dismissal from the program and the resident may not be granted re-admission. Furthermore, if a resident chooses to leave he/she must take their personal belongings with them when they go. If the personal belongings are left on Sound Mind, Inc. property longer than 24 hours after departure, those belongings become property of Sound Mind, Inc. Moreover, all payments are non-refundable.
Telephone Communication and Visitors:
Cell phones are privilege to be earned and not a right. Therefore, all residents will surrender their cell phone upon entry to the facility and will be given the phones back when staff has evaluated the residents attitude and conduct within the facility once entering the second phase of the program.
Visits and Passes:
Visits and passes will not be given if they interfere with church or support groups. In other words: Church and groups are a major part of this program and residents are required to attend.
The first week at our facility, a resident is under full restriction. This means no phone calls and no visits. After one week, a resident will be allowed phone calls on the facility’s phone from family only. Residents will be allowed to make or receive two personal phone calls a day after one week with each call limited to 20 minutes. Visits with family must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance and must occur during normal business ours when staff is present. The exception to this is court-ordered visits with children that are monitored by an ASO provider or CPS.
In the second phase of the program after the first two months, up to 8 hours of weekly pass time can be granted dependent on the resident’s attitude and compliance with program requirements. Moreover, weekly pass time is not to interfere with support groups or church attendance.
In the third phase of the program, one overnight stay a month may be given after the resident has been in the program for four months.
WAKE UP TIME/Quiet Time:
All residents will be required to wake up and begin their daily chores by 7am. Furthermore, all residents will be required to be in their room for quiet time by 11pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends. This rule may be waved for people whose work schedule does not permit adherence.
WORK:
During first 6 months of the program, residents will work on their recovery plan and those goals and objectives. This will include renewing/getting back driver’s license, working toward GED, focusing on health, dental, and mental health issues, and completing required groups and classes offered by the program.
Therefore, residents will not be allowed to work for the first 6 months. If they chose to do the year program, the second 6 months is the work portion of the program. They could also choose to stay a year and further their education during the second 6 months of the program rather than going to work. Sound Mind, Inc. staff will assist residents with referrals to appropriate educational and employment-related programs.
GAS:
Once residents are in the work portion of the program each resident who uses Sound Mind, Inc. vehicles will be required to pay a minimum of $5 per one way trip. Transportation assistance to employment is based on job location and staff/volunteer availability which is determined by the program director.
Drop Offs:
Residents will be allowed drop offs of food and other items from family only. Drop offs will only be allowed during business hours when staff is present. Additionally, any items dropped off by family will be subject to search. Furthermore, employees of Sound Mind, Inc. must be the one to receive the drop off for the resident.
Agreement:
As a resident, I hereby agree to comply with any and all policies of Sound Mind, Inc. I fully understand that Sound Mind, Inc. is a faith-centered organization whose teachings are founded on Jesus Christ. In addition, I fully agree to comply with the rules of the program in order to continue to be a resident of the facility and work on my sobriety.
